Contemporary Lakeside Residence

Designed by Vancouver, Canada based architect Fook Weng Chan, The Lakeside Residence is located in ski-country close to Vancouver. The lot offered views across a glacial-fed lake to three mountain peaks. However it is also located adjacent to a highway.

A design was developed to take one through multiple ‘layers’ of house – from driving highway speeds, slowing one’s psyche down as one wanders through a meandering path within a compact forested frontyard; entering a translucent glass & fir gate in a curved stone wall which serves as a buffer between highway & house; into a ’zen-like’ compact entry courtyard, with a pool & water feature. All along the way, one pauses to become enveloped with a sense of tranquility.

A timber colonnade frames the lake & mountain view directly ahead. Another timber colonnade perpendicular to the first serves as a circulation spine and organizing element for the house. The posts suggest enclosure for each space in the otherwise open great room. Other rooms are like alcoves off this main space. One moves through the great room to the balcony, which has an exuberant cantilevered curved edge, suggestive to the joy of carving into the snow when skiing.

Local basalt is used for the stone clad walls; local Douglas fir for the timber structure and ceiling panels in the great room. Exterior walls are also of local Western Red Cedar and copper. Cabinetwork is predominantly of bamboo. The building is heated and cooled using geo-exchange off the lake source.

The house presents a low-key, substantial stone walled front and a more open lantern-like private lakeside, resting on a landscaped terraced concrete podium. It is a of a moderne expression, but, upon closer scrutiny, rich with subtle displays of craftmanship – the expression of the human hand and spirit.

Bond & Brook Restaurant

Bond & Brook Restaurant was designed by architectural and interiors practice d_raw, in collaboration with the hospitality consultancy A Private View (founded by Evening Standard restaurant critic Fay Maschler & Journalist and Broadcaster, Simon Davis) and brand specialists Made Thought. Situated inside the Fenwick department store in London, this luxurious white and sleek restaurant on Bond Street, will boast not only a daytime restaurant but also a less formal café area and a large, sculptural, showpiece of a cocktail bar central to the no-expense-spared space. All elements of the design have been created especially for the reclaimed space, most prominently a curtain of semi-reflective, floor to ceiling, asymmetric glass ‘fins’ that encircle the two store-facing sides of the restaurant.

Temporary Restaurant by Tribe Studio Architects

Restaurant known as place for serving food and drink and today an owner didn’t concern about menu but also thinking about how a costumer enjoy life and eat in restaurant. by designing and decorating restaurant more comfortable and enjoyable make a costumer endure and stand inside for long time like what done with this temporary restaurant exhibited Eat Green Design festival in Sydney, Australia. a unique and contemporary interior temporary restaurant created by Tribe Studio Architects lets we watch his detail description about temporary restaurant in Sydney below:

This project explores the conversion of a vast museum space into a pop-up restaurant. 40 guests are seated at one linear table, where they are served and lectured on all things sustainable.

The intention of the design is to engage in the sustainability dialogue whilst creating a playful, festive and whimsical space. The idea of suspended plywood spirals at varying lengths reduces the intimidating grandeur of the hall to create an intimate and inviting space, throwing a warm glow and interesting shadows onto the table.

The design incorporates the insertion of a low ceiling and lighting installation, to create a sense of warmth and intimacy in the enormous space using sustainably produced materials, low VOC paints and compact fluorescent light fittings.

The installation was created from 2400×1200 sheets of 6mm BB grade hoop pine plywood, laser-cut and painted. The plywood panels are fixed to a fine steel frame and suspended on rigging. The steel frame is inset from the edge, allowing an elevation reading that reveals the sharp thinness of the ply. The use of the laser-cut tapering spiral involved extensive prototyping to achieve the right thickness of plywood verse a proportioned spiral to allow for drops under gravity. The spirals create an inverted mountainous topography and give a three-dimensionality to the piece.

The detailing intent was sustainably focused, with a simple expression of the material’s inherent natural qualities. By fabricating the panels offsite, we reduce the energy embodied in transportation. Laser-cutting and minimal use of material allows for the panels to be transported flat.

After being dismantled the ceiling installation was designed to be broken down into modules for wall art, trivets, Christmas trees and table lamps. As it happened, the entire installation was bought by a restaurant and will have a second life.

Vuzzle Chair by Christopher Daniel

Christopher Daniel is an imaginative designer, how come? he has created a chair that could be broken down pairs, like a puzzle. Named vuzzle chair. It’s a seat cushion consisting of 59 cushions that divides full cub into Voronoi cells. Where each cushion is connected with neodymium magnet to ensure cohesive status with a pillow nearby. So you do not have to worry about these pillows would fall apart if you sit on there.

How to create a chair of this cube? By eliminating just 13 pillows you can find a unique form of the chair. Cells can be seen clearly from this chair. Bearings that were removed can be used as footrests with arranged into small cubes. It’s available in three color patterns of choice that is Vuzzle Milk, Vuzzle Neat and Vuzzle Bloody Mary.
